Providing intelligent materials handling solutions for 35 years…..

In 1982, Messrs Brown, Jackson and Bates seized the opportunity to amalgamate their knowledge of the materials handling industry and establish BJB Mechanical Services, based in Birchin Way, Grimsby. This new independent dealership rapidly carved a niche for itself as a leading materials handling equipment provider, mainly focussing on Kalmar, Lansing and Still Machinery.

Today, the BJB client portfolio encompasses businesses from Fort William in Scotland to Penzance in Cornwall.

A year later, in 1983, BJB was awarded the Mitsubishi forklift dealership – a major achievement after only 12 months trading. Continued growth and investment over the next 12 years culminated in BJB being awarded the prestigious Caterpillar dealership in 1995.

Over the next decade, the company moved from Birchin Way to larger premises in Stirling Street, and eventually to its current location in Armstrong Street. BJB Lift Trucks could now provide its client base with a wider range of materials handling equipment – from a Manual Pedestrian Pallet Truck to Fork Lift Trucks to Mobile Elevating Work Platforms.

2007 – New management team take the reins

In 2007, a management consortium of Philip Flowers, Peter Harvey and Marie Hardy bought BJB Lift Trucks Limited. Since this momentous date, Philip, Peter and Marie have reinvigorated the company and continued to strengthen and expand BJB Lift Trucks, raising it to be one of the leading materials handling providers both locally and nationally.
The new leadership team at BJB Lift Trucks took the opportunity during this period of transition to re-brand and modernise the company. The company also received its new “rising sun” logo representing a new dawn and a new direction.

Massive investment was made in improving employee working conditions with modernisation of the office block, new vehicles were purchased for the mobile engineers and BJB Lift Trucks encourage and support all staff with various continuous personal development programmes – including NVQ’s, accounting, administration and first aid.
As more emphasis was placed on health and safety issues, BJB Lift Trucks strived for greater recognition of its investment in this field by applying for Contractor Competency (Concom) accreditation.

2008 – BJB secure contractor compentency accreditation

In 2008, the company was subjected to a rigorous inspection by independent auditors. The audit examined health and safety systems and BJB Lift Trucks responsibility for the health, safety and competence of its employees. BJB Lift Trucks’ investment in the Concom accreditation raised its profile as a preferred supplier with some of the major COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) sites in the Humber region including Bluestar Fibres, Cristal Global, Knauf Drywall, Lenzing Fibres, Novartis and Tata Steel. However, the BJB health and safety ethos also resonates with smaller clients and business relations.

2011 was another momentous year for BJB Lift Trucks!

In May 2011, we were successful at the Northern Lincolnshire Business Awards, organised by the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce. Against stiff competition, BJB Lift Trucks won the Northern Lincolnshire Award for Training Excellence. To win this award, the company had to demonstrate its commitment and investment in training its own staff.
In June 2011, BJB Lift Trucks were sought out by Nissan Forklift UK and appointed as authorised dealers for the northern Lincolnshire, Harrogate, Hull and York postcode areas. This prestigious partnership with one of the world’s leading forklift manufacturers has strengthened BJB Lift Trucks reputation as a provider of quality materials handling equipment.

The Nissan Forklift dealership was announced at a Brand Launch Event held at Blundell Park, the home of Grimsby Town Football Club, in September 2011. A wide range of Nissan Forklift counterbalance and warehouse related products were displayed. Many of BJB Lift Trucks supply partners also supported this event with exhibits from Aldermore Bank, Audio Island (Grimsby), Bendi Forklift, Cascade Attachments, Hako, Pyroban and Witham Oils.

BJB Lift Trucks is also keen to support the local community through sponsorship of Linkage Community Trust, Cleethorpes Town Football Clubs, Grimsby Town Football Club, Grimsby and Cleethorpes Cricket Clubs as well as a wide variety of other sporting and social events.

2013 – BJB turn 30 and win 2 more awards!

2013 saw BJB Lift Trucks celebrate 30 years of trading. The company continued its sustained growth with figures having improved year on year since the management buyout 6 years earlier. They also entered the Northern Lincolnshire Business Awards again and won an unprecedented second Excellence in Training award plus the trophy for Excellence in Community Relations. The community relations award was recognition for the Grimsby firm’s commitment and investment towards saving and refurbishing The Linden Homes Club in Cleethorpes. The site was home to many of the junior football teams that received support from BJB and was facing closure. BJB stepped in and oversaw the refurbishment of the buildings with many staff volunteering time to help with the overhaul. Many other local firms also donated labour and equipment to help secure the clubs’ future.

2015 – BJB moving up in the world and a new name for Nissan

2015 proved to be another busy year for BJB with the firm moving from its Armstrong Street site to larger premises in Estate Road No 1 in Grimsby. The Estate Road 1 site offers increased capacity for the materials handling equipment specialists. In keeping with BJB’s high standards, the offices underwent a major programme of modernisation and refurbishment. Meanwhile, the expansive warehouse was divided into 2 separate areas for the service and training departments.

The Nissan brand also got an overhaul with a name change to TCM. BJB Lift Trucks continues to be the regional supplier for the DN and LN postcode region.

Today, the BJB client portfolio encompasses businesses from Peterhead in Scotland to Penzance in Cornwall. The equipment range on offer has also been extended to ensure BJB can provide its customers with more choice. In addition to TCM Forklift, the customer also has the choice of Bendi, Caterpillar, Hako, Heli, Hyundai, Kalmar, Linde and Manitou.
