Health & Safety News

Please support Surinder to raise money for Diabetes.

I challenge anybody who lives in the Grimsby & Cleethorpes area to drive round and not spot Surinder running her daily Marathon.

Surinder is a cheerful warm individual who is using her running skills to help others and has set herself a target of raising 10K for Diabetes in the 2009 London marathon.

Surinders life has not always been as easy, simple and cheerful as it is now, having lost her mother Mohinder Kaur Virdee to Diabetes in a country where hospital care is almost non existent, she is so desperate to give back to the community the tools to help people with this, what can be, a tragic condition.

BJB Lift Trucks, a Grimsby based Materials Handling company are behind her all the way (as will be most of the competitors) and will be proud to see Surinder finish wearing her special BJB colours.

If you can raise, support or assist Surinder in any way please use our CONTACT PAGE to confirm your details, your company where appropriate and the amount you will sponsor, if in any doubt you can contact our Operations Manager David Hale on 01472 230244.

PLEASE HELP SURINDER TO HELP OTHERS

THANK YOU

BJB held it's 5th annual golf day at the Waltham Windmill Golf Club in Grimsby on Friday 13th June 2008. "The whole day was a terrific success, the weather held out for us, the course was well manicured and played well" said organiser and operations manager David Hale.

"Our Golf Day has become a very important event in the Waltham Windmill diary and credit to all their staff for making it such a memorable day" commented David.

BJB were very privilaged this year to have the club proffesional Mark Stephenson play in one of the teams, "Mark is a good team player and goes that extra mile to ensure that club members and visitors enjoy their visit to this premier course" David remarked.

The day was focussed around 18 holes stableford golf, team as well as individual scores followed by a traditional hog roast prepared by steward John Spall and his catering team.

Prizegiving was at 8.45pm with team 5 taking the team prize, Paul Findlay, Ian Cooke, Pete West and Peter Winn with Peter Winn taking the day's individual prizes and this years holder of the Alf Jackson Memorial Trophy.

During the day we raffled off a signed, framed Chelsea FC football shirt for charity, this was drawn during the after dinner preceedings and raised a fantastic £750.00 which will go to Leeds Mencap "The Rookery".

David and the company directors Peter & Philip would like to thank all those who turned up for this event and we all look forward to next year when we repeat the invitation, diaries ladies gentlemen Friday 5th June 2009.

BJB Lift Trucks recruit two more new members of staff

Apprentice lift truck technicians Ben Ward and Harry Parkin started their career with BJB on 1st June 2008. "We see these young chaps as our future, the apprentice scheme they have entered into is bespoke for the lift truck industry, they will have to work from our HQ in Grimsby, under supervision on certain sites and attend college in Bristol.

This is seen as a challenge for the company as well as the lads" commented David Hale Operations Manager.

Three new personnel.

Growing demand from businesses throughout the UK has prompted Grimsby-based BJB Lift Trucks to further boost its service team with three new personnel.

The materials handling specialist has taken on a new service engineer, bringing the number of staff in this area to 14, while two new apprentice engineers begin their training in June 08.

"The business is expanding and we simply need more technical staff to enable us to maintain the high standards our customers expect," said director Pete Harvey.

"In the past, we've struggled to find quality engineers who could fit into our way of working. Fortunately, we're now big enough to train up our own people - hence the apprentices."

The growth achieved by BJB in recent months is clearly underlined by turnover for the last quarter, which shows an increase of around 25% on the previous year. As a result, the company is also looking for a new salesperson.

"While a lot of companies in our sector are reining themselves and their staff in, we're encouraging our people to do the opposite," Mr Harvey continued.

"The new salesperson will look after the sales and hire of our full range of materials handling equipment - both locally and nationally - and will be free to work on their own initiative.

We're offering an excellent package and he or she could soon be running their own sales team.

It's a great opportunity and we know the business is out there .... "because it's already coming in."

BJB is also making inroads with the Aixam Mega "eco-truck" - a battery-operated vehicle, for which they became agents last year.

"Most recently, we supplied one to a farming operation near Lincoln, "Fresh from the Fields" said operations manager David Hale "you'll be able to see this vehicle at the Lincolnshire Show 18th & 19th of June at the Lincolnshire Showground".

"It's now being used to deliver fresh vegetables to outlets throughout the city on a daily basis. Being electrically-powered, the Aixam Mega is a good addition to company's core product range, where improvements are also being made.

We're currently upgrading the short term hire fleet with new vehicles," Mr Hale continued. "Our aim is to get the life of the equipment down to five years, which will keep our costs down and ensure our customers get the best possible equipment."

BJB's training division is doing equally well and again new developments are in the pipeline.

Headed by training, health and safety manager, John Smith, the division provides courses for all types of materials handling equipment - on-site and at the company's Armstrong Street headquarters - courtesy of three full-time instructors.

It's staff and centre are accredited by the RTITB, ITTSAR and the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), which focuses specifically on access platforms.

"In addition, we recently introduced an RTITB instructor re-registration course, which was a terrific success, and following the recent signing of a very lucrative three year contract we could be looking at developing a new training centre in the Scunthorpe area," said Mr Smith.

"It would help us to boost capacity in this area and meet the rising demand for our training"

LAUNCHED ON TIME...

As planned, the new management team along with a senior partner from VCT in Kettering launched the new BJB Lift Trucks branding to all their staff on Monday 10th December. The new brand is very distinctive, clean and professional and has been applied to the new website, stationary, wall planners, all exterior signs and company vehicles.

The company has invested in two new Ford Transit vans, all decaled and racked inside to a very professional standard. Both vans where on hand to be viewed by the engineers who were very excited at the thought of this planned and structured change in the image of their company.

Long standing engineer John Nelthorpe said “People will think there’s a new forklift truck company in town, I like it, this will certainly turn a few heads.”

The new management team has not only developed a new look for the business, it has made a sizeable investment in the modernisation of offices, training room and the new reception, this will deliver a new warm welcome to all our visitors.

Also, Marie Hardy, Company Secretary commented “The new look reflects a more clean and modern image, I think it’s great”.

“It’s very important that all our people have the right tools to do the job, while at the same time presenting this new professional and modern image. Our new strap-line “Intelligent Materials Handling Solutions” speaks volumes about BJB’s new dynamic and forward thinking approach” said Operations Manager, David Hale.

This new website has been designed to allow BJB to use it as a real sales tool and will become a central point of information, offering customers specification and detail on all its products.
